Toronto and Provincial Peer Support Coordinator

About Me

I first became familiar with mental health initiatives and programs as a recipient of mental health care.  My mental health experiences played a role in pursuing a career working with and in support of people.  I achieved my Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in Honours Psychology and Honours Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University.  During this time, I completed numerous practicum placements and volunteer positons oriented around mental health. I had the opportunity to offer one-on-one support to seniors coping with various mental health challenges within retirement and long term care residences as well as the opportunity to work with various organizations focused on social development and support within the Kitchener-Waterloo area.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I was accepted as a Telephone Information and Peer Support volunteer at the MDAO.  Over the next 3 years as a volunteer, I assisted the organization with youth program planning and development, social media initiatives, telephone peer support and group facilitation.  While remaining involved with the MDAO, I achieved my Social Service Worker diploma from Fanshawe College, where provided supportive counselling to individuals coping with mental health challenges.

What I Do

As the Peer Support Coordinator at MDAO, I aim to support individuals in their mental health recovery while operating from a person-centred approach.  I consider each unique individual as a whole, consider their experiences from their own perspectives, and take individual strengths and interests into account while supporting individuals on their path towards recovery.  I draw upon my own experiences and education in hopes of empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

I provide one-on-one counselling for individuals and families, facilitate several recovery groups, and collaborate in program development to meet the needs of our clients.
